Ownership and Transfer
PubExa LTD — Effective date: June 29, 2026
This page explains who a website belongs to inside PubExa, what happens when a domain changes hands, and how a new owner can claim a site when the previous owner is no longer reachable.
A site belongs to the account that registered it
Every website in PubExa is registered to exactly one publisher account. A domain can only be registered once across the whole platform — if a site is already registered, no other account can add it.
That rule is what protects you. It means nobody else can list your website, claim your traffic, or collect earnings generated by your readers.
Transferring a site you still control
If you have sold a domain, or you simply want to move it to a different PubExa account, the process takes about a minute:
- Sign in and open My Websites.
- Remove the site you are transferring.
- Tell the new owner they can now add it.
Removing a site releases the domain immediately. The new owner adds it to their own account like any other website, and it goes through the normal review before it starts serving ads.
You do not need to contact us, and we do not need to be involved.
What happens to earnings
Earnings stay with the account that generated them. Everything your site earned up to the moment you removed it remains in your account and is paid out to you under the normal payout terms. The new owner starts from zero.
We do not move balances between accounts, and we cannot pay one account for traffic served by another.
Claiming a site when the previous owner will not release it
Sometimes a domain changes hands and the previous owner does not remove it — they have moved on, lost access to their email, or are simply unresponsive. In that case the new owner can claim the domain by proving they control it.
We do not decide who owns a business, a brand or a website. We only verify one thing: who controls the domain right now. Whoever can prove that control gets the listing.
How to prove control
Choose whichever is easier for you. Both are standard methods you may already know from other services.
Option 1 — a file on your website
We give you a filename and a short verification code. Upload a plain text file with that name to the root of your website, containing only that code, so it is reachable at:
https://yourdomain.com/pubexa-verification.txtOption 2 — a DNS record
We give you a verification code. Add it to your domain as a TXT record:
Type: TXT
Host: @ (or your domain name, depending on your DNS provider)
Value: pubexa-site-verification=YOUR-CODEDNS changes can take a few hours to become visible.
What happens next
- Contact us at the PubExa SUPPORT page from the email address on your PubExa account, naming the domain you are claiming.
- We send you a verification code and confirm which method you have chosen.
- Once we can see your file or your DNS record, we notify the current registered account and give them seven days to object.
- If there is no valid objection, we remove the site from the old account and you can register it on yours.
We notify the existing account because verification proves control, and control can change for reasons other than a sale — including a domain being hijacked. The waiting period exists so that a legitimate owner who is simply on holiday does not lose their site.
If the previous owner objects and both parties claim the domain, we will not act as a judge. We keep the site where it is until you resolve it between yourselves, or until a registrar, a court or another competent authority decides who the domain belongs to.
Earnings during a claim
A claim does not transfer money. Any earnings the site generated while it was registered to the previous account remain with that account.
